Smithfield Street Bridge, Pittsburgh, PA
A truly impressive bridge that replaced the one designed by one of the early great engineers of our time.  The original bridge was Roebling’s second bridge in Pittsburgh (after the Allegheny Aqueduct, which no longer stands) and was a precursor to what many consider his greatest achievement, the Brooklyn Bridge.  The current bridge (circa 1883) was designed by Gustav Lindenthal.
